SIKESTON -- Charlie Gilliland, 86, of Sikeston, died Tuesday, June 25, 1996, at Sikeston Health Resident Care. He was born Aug. 24, 1909, in Birmingham, Ala., son of James Wiley and Lucy Blaylock Gilliland. He and Opal M. Woods were married Jan. 21, 1931, in Scott County. She died Dec. 2, 1993...

SIKESTON -- Charlie Gilliland, 86, of Sikeston, died Tuesday, June 25, 1996, at Sikeston Health Resident Care.

He was born Aug. 24, 1909, in Birmingham, Ala., son of James Wiley and Lucy Blaylock Gilliland. He and Opal M. Woods were married Jan. 21, 1931, in Scott County. She died Dec. 2, 1993.

Gilliland farmed many years in Scott County, and then worked for Missouri State Highway Department.

Survivors include a son, James Gilliland of Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter, Evelin Estes of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by nine brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau from 4-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Cy Smith officiating. Burial will be in New Morley Cemetery at Morley.
