SIKESTON -- Funeral for Charles D. Wood Sr. of Sikeston will be held at 1 p.m. today at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Msgr. William Stanton will officiate. Burial will be in Dry Bayou Cemetery at Hayti.
Nunnelee Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Wood, 76, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at his home.
He was born Feb. 26, 1923, at Sikeston, son of Stacker J. and Pearl Wood. He and Edith I. Ahart were married April 10, 1943. She died Nov. 18, 1998.
Wood installed commercial bakery equipment for Lanham's Machinery in Atlanta, Ga., for 20 years. He worked at Hart's Bakery seven years, and had also worked at Littleton Amusement Co.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, American Legion Post 114, VFW Post 3174, and was a life member of the 32nd Division Veterans Association. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II.
Survivors include a son, David Wood of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Lonna Clinch of San Antonio, Texas; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, a brother, and a sister.
