Charles William "Sonny" Johnson, 72, 2730 Adeline, died Monday, Nov. 2, 1992, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Aug. 28, 1920, in Cape Girardeau, son of William H. and Maggie Lee Charles Johnson. He first married Marie Kathryn Nenninger Jan. 28, 1950, in Arkansas. She died July 29, 1975. He later married Jackie Stroder July 22, 1978, in Cape Girardeau.
Johnson was a licensed radio technician and ham radio operator. He started Johnson Communications in 1959, retiring in 1986. He had the Motorola National Service Facility, and began the first paging and answering service in 1970 known as J&S Communications.
He was a member of First Pentecostal Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, as a tank driver in Germany.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Kathy Swan of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Pat Rosenfeld of Cincinnati, Ohio, Edna Baggott of Elmhurst, Ill., and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. The Revs. John Gourley and Charles Holtzclaw will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. today.
