LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Charles M. Schmitt, 68, of Leopold died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born March 24, 1932, at Leopold, son of Henry John and Minnie H. Brummer Schmitt. He and Dorothy Overbeck were married on June 6, 1964.
He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church at Gordonville, Mo., and of the United Men's Club of the church. He was a retired carpenter.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Charley D. Schmitt of Leopold; a daughter, Jo Ann James of Leopold; two sisters, Dorothy O'Hara of San Diego, Calif., and Judy Beussink of Advance, Mo.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill, Mo., and after 10 a.m. Thursday at Zion United Methodist Church near Gordonville.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Ann Mowery officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
