PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Charles H. Sanders, 83, of Perryville died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at his home.
He was born Oct. 26, 1917, in Perry County, Mo., son of Thomas and Mayme Cox Sanders. He and Lois Wheeler were married Dec. 25, 1941, in Perryville.
Sanders taught high school agriculture at Perryville and Ste. Genevieve, Mo. He was manager of the Perry County Co-op, was first president of the Perry County Nursing Home board and first president of Public Water Supply District 2. He also served on the board of education for the Bois Brule school district.
He was a member and deacon of the Lithium Baptist Church, a member of the St. Mary Masons Lodge 226, a Scottish-Rite Shriner and manager of the PCA.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II, and was a member of American Legion Post 133.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Richard Sanders of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Charles H. Sanders Jr. of O'Fallon, Mo., and Russell Sanders of Jacksonville, N.C.; a brother, Frank Sanders of Greencastle, Ind.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday or 6:30-11 a.m. Wednesday at Young and Sons Chapel in Perryville. Masonic wake will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Gerold McBride officiating. Military graveside rites at Home Cemetery will be performed by American Legion Post 133.
