Charles Ross

Charles W. Ross, 80, of Jackson passed away Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Feb. 14, 1928, in Cape Girardeau to Charles H. and Lora May Greer Ross. He and Nina Tripp were married Oct. 3, 1946, in Marble Hill, Mo.

Ross was a port engineer at the former Marquette Cement from 1948 to 1968; in conjunction with this job, he was a member of the Marine Engineer Beneficial Association. In 1974 he began raising registered Black Angus cattle on his farm near Scopus, Mo., and was still actively farming at the time of his death. In 1969, he became employed at Huffman Towing in Clayton, Mo., retiring in 1999.

In addition to his loving wife of 62 years, survivors of the Cape Girardeau area include his son, Charles "Chuck" S. (Nancy) Ross; a granddaughter, Wendy Lamont; a great-grandson, Brett Lamont; a sister, Patsy Ross; a brother-in-law, Don (Mary) Tripp; and a sister-in-law, Justine (Gary) Watson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Virgil Porter officiating.

Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Southeast Hospice.
