SIKESTON -- Funeral service for Charles R. "Charley" Conn of Sikeston will be held at 2 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Charles Buck will officiate, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Conn, 82, died Monday, April 24, 1995, at his home.
He was born March 6, 1913, in East Prairie, son of Eugene R. and Minta Jones Conn. He and Louise Allstun were married July 18, 1936, at East Prairie.
Conn established East Prairie Lumber Co. in the 1940s, worked 20 years at Sikeston Lumber Co., and was a builder and developer in Southeast Missouri. He was one of the original founders of Security Federal Savings and Loan Association, founded B&C Salvage Co. in Paducah, Ky., and developed farmland in Southern Illinois and Western Kentucky.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, served on the board, was a trustee and head of the committee for the new building.
Conn was also a member of Sikeston Kiwanis Club, member and past president of Sikeston Chamber of Commerce, member of Shrine Club, and was a 32nd Degree Mason.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Terry Conn of Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter, Pamela Barrett of Charleston, and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
