Charles Avant Patterson Jr., 85, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at Southeast Hospital.
He was born March 25, 1934, in Commerce, Missouri, to Charles Avant and Cora Columbus Allen Patterson. He and Costella Ferguson were married July 23, 1959. She preceded him in death May 7, 2002. He later married Geneva Binion Allen on July 28, 2012.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He received a degree from Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas.
He was mechanic supervisor for Procter & Gamble where he retired. He was a member of Boy Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Harmony Masonic Lodge 40 and Princess Oziel Chapter 101 Order of Eastern Star for more than 40 years and the NAACP.
He was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church, currently serving as steward emeritus.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Geneva Allen-Patterson of Cape Girardeau; his children, David Eugene Patterson of Peoria, Illinois, Reginald (Lorri) Patterson of Montgomery, Alabama, Laura Regenia (Henry Frank) Foster of Nashville, Tennessee, and Terry Taylor of Sikeston, Missouri; blended with, Ruth Margaret (Scott) McBride of Kansas City, Missouri, Nona Christina Perry of Kansas City and David Reginald Allen of Columbia, Missouri; brother, Rotha David Patterson of Jackson, Tennessee; aunt, Anita Smith of Shiloh, Illinois; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Costella; and brother, William Walter Patterson.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday at St. James A.M.E. Church in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will follow at noon Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Renita Marie Green officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. James A.M.E. Church.
