Charles E. Myers, 71, of Oak Ridge passed away Monday, July 12, 2010, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 20, 1938, in Cape Girardeau, son of Edgar and Marie Schmidt Myers. He and Shirley Elbrecht were married Aug. 18, 1963.

Charles was a public school teacher 31 years, retiring in 1992 after 25 years at Washington Elementary School in Cape Girardeau. He farmed in the Oak Ridge community and formerly served on the Oak Ridge School Board.

Loving survivors include his wife of 46 years; a son, Keith (Sheila) Myers of Oak Ridge; two daughters, Debbie (Dale) Ruch and Karen (Andy) Schumer of Oak Ridge; two sisters, Barbara (Bill) King of Oak Ridge, Cathy Dement of Dexter, Mo.; a brother, Jimmie (Rose) Myers of Chaffee, Mo.; six grandchildren, Shyenne (Brian) Friese, Jessica Ruch, Brittney Myers, Miranda Schumer, Waylyn Myers, Madison Schumer; and a great-grandchild, Clayton Ruch.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Matthews officiating. Interment will be in Goshen Cemetery near Oak Ridge.

The family suggests memorials be made to Oak Ridge Public School or Goshen Cemetery Fund.
