ANNA, Ill. -- Charles Mayberry Jr., 79, of Anna died Saturday, April 11, 2009, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna.

He was born May 8, 1929, near Jonesboro, Ill., son of Charles and Clola Brown Mayberry. He and Susie I. Trout were married March 11, 1949, in Union County.

Mayberry was in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was the pastor of the Full Gospel Tabernacle in South Pekin for 25 years. Mayberry also was a building contractor in the Anna-Jonesboro area for many years. He was an overseer of the Elco Pentecostal Camp Ground for several years.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Erma J. Cooksey of Green Valley; a son, Charles R. Mayberry of Cincinnati; two sisters, Anita Harris of Jonesboro, Bessie Galiher of Taylor Mill, Ky.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro and from 11 a.m. to service time Tuesday at Trinity Pentecostal Tabernacle in Jonesboro.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Revs. Frank Nowes and Geoffery Bond officiating.

Interment will be in Valley Mission Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 of Anna.
