Charles Edward Markland Sr., 79, of Scott City died Monday, June 6, 2016, at his home.
He was born June 12, 1936, in Dexter, Missouri, to James Marion and Ella Lavetta Lane Markland.
He married Charlene Moore on April 17, 1959, in Scott City. She preceded him in death July 1, 2014.
He was a conductor for Cotton Belt Railroad.
He was a member of First Assembly of God in Scott City and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Charles is survived by two sons, Chuck (Becky) Markland of Scott City and Chris (Kim) Markland of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Cheryl (Mike) Cutright of Scott City; a brother, Allen "Sonny" (Karen) Markland of Scott City; a sister, Barbara Jean Smith of Sikeston, Missouri; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Curtis Markland, on June 15, 1985; two brothers; and three sisters.
Visitation will be from noon until the time of service Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Randy Morse officiating.
Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau with full military honors.
