Memorial service for Charles Albert Hood, 523 Alta Vista, former mayor and City Council representative, will be held at 3 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Chapel in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. James Caughlan will officiate.

Hood, 90, died Thursday, May 9, 1996, at the Lutheran Home.

He was born Jan. 1, 1906, in Cape Girardeau, son of William Walter and Zelma Launius Hood. He first married Nina Morrow in 1928, who died in 1951. He then married Opal Dankel in 1954, who died in 1962. He and Verna "Mid" Harrison were married in 1968. She died in 1987.

Hood had been a general contractor, millworker and was in the retail grocery business. He served on the City Council three years.

He was a trustee of Cape Girardeau Country Club; member of Consumer Finance Board, Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Main Street Levee District and North Main Street Levee District. Hood was a charter member of Elks Lodge, Tower Club, and Southeast Missouri Hospital Foundation. He served on the hospital's foundation board more than 25 years. He received the Golden Deed Award in 1967.

Survivors include two stepdaughters, Joan Dankel Hope and Javada Dankel Edwards of Cape Girardeau.
