CHARLES HILL

Charles L. Hill, 74, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, May 14, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 17, 1925, in Benton, Ill., son of Clyde Ray and Erma Shaffer Hill. He and Helen L. Pilson were married Nov. 6, 1943, in Oshkosh, Wis.

Hill was a coal miner at Orient No. 1 near West Frankfort, Ill., had been an engineering aide at Electric Energy Power Plant in Joppa, Ill., was a land surveyor with state of Illinois out of Carbondale, and then was superintendent of highways for Massac County, retiring in 1987.

He moved to Cape Girardeau in 1987 from Metropolis, Ill. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Cape Girardeau.

Hill was a navigator in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, and was in the Battles of Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary Hill of Carbondale; two daughters, Janet Myrick of Cape Girardeau, Carol McGuire of Pahoa, Hawaii; his mother of Benton, Ill.; two brothers, James Hill of Morton, Ill., Paul Hill of Pekin, Ill.; two sisters, Geri Davis of Centralia, Ill., Anna Moss of Groveland, Ill; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel Sunday from 4-8 p.m.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel, with the Rev. Gary Brothers officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum.
