Cecil E. Brotherton, 86, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 23, 1922, in Patton, Mo., son of Pink and Rella Seabaugh Brotherton. He and Geraldine Seabaugh were married May 11, 1946.

Cecil was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, serving from Feb. 2, 1943, to March 25, 1946. He received a Victory Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with a Bronze Star and two Overseas Bars.

He worked at the former International Shoe Co. in Jackson and was a carpenter more than 40 years with the former Carpenter's Union in Cape Girardeau.

Cecil was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson, Excelsior Masonic Lodge 441 in Jackson, Scottish Rite, and Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson.

Loving survivors include his wife of 62 years; a son, Wayne (Lesa) Brotherton of Millersville; two daughters, Shiela (Jerry) Tuschhoff of Cape Girardeau, Sherri (Randy) Statler of Oak Ridge; five grandchildren, Todd and Jamie Brotherton, Lucas Tuschhoff, and Dusty and Rusty Statler; a great-granddaughter, Addylynn Cecilia Brotherton; and a sister, Helen Cook of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at McCombs Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson with full military honors.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
