SIKESTON, Mo. -- C.D. "Cotton" Springs, 82, of Sikeston died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Missouri Delta Medical Center. SIKESTON, Mo. -- C.D. "Cotton" Springs, 82, of Sikeston died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

He was born July 8, 1918, at Cline's Island, Mo., son of Ernest and Arminta Jane Hutchason Springs. He and Martha B. Allard were married Dec. 26, 1936, at Greenville, Mo. She died Aug. 10, 2000.

Springs was owner and operator of C.D. Springs Trucking and Springs Farms.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, was active in the Sikeston Chamber of Commerce and was a former board member.

Springs was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of Sikeston Masonic Lodge 310 AF&AM. He was a Shriner and one of the original members of the SEMO Shrine Mounted Patrol and had worked on the committee to start the Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo in 1952.

Survivors include a son, Charles Springs of Sikeston; a daughter, Janie Potashnick of Sikeston; a brother, Harold Springs of Sikeston; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, with Dr. Jim Davis and the Rev. Sandra Schaller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
