PORTAGEVILLE -- Catherine Haynes Fitzgerald, 73, of Chicago, died Thursday, May 7, 1998.
She was born Feb. 8, 1925, at Point Pleasant, the daughter of Robert and Minnie Settles Haynes, and had lived in Chicago for more than 45 years.
She was a 1945 graduate of O'Bannon High School in New Madrid. She retired from Cook County School District in 1993. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by a daughter, Georgia Huntley of Chicago; six brothers, Eddie and Willie Haynes of Portageville, Robert Haynes Jr. of Zebulon, N.C., Anthony Haynes of Greenville, Miss., and Joe L. and Walter Haynes of Chicago; five sisters, Louise Haynes Tipler of Braggadocio, Dorothy Sykes and Robbie Taylor of Portageville, Callie A. Land of Detroit, and Minnie Welch of Chicago; five grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Milton Fitzgerald, two brothers and a sister.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Zion Rock Missionary Baptist Church in Portageville. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Robert Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Mason Cemetery in Point Pleasant. The Williams-Farr and Parnell Funeral Home in Howardville is in charge of arrangements.
