Carolyn Jean Smith, 74, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, Aug. 8, 2021, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
She was born June 3, 1947, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Winford and Verda Welker Garland. She and Charles "Charlie" Smith were married Aug. 8, 1969.
Carolyn was a 1965 graduate of Meadow Heights High School in Patton, Missouri. She became the first homecoming queen in 1965. Carolyn was a secretary at Jackson High School for 25 years and was loved by many students. Carolyn enjoyed spending time with all her "grands," fishing with Charlie at their cabin in Marble Hill, Missouri, and having fish fries with friends and family.
She attended the Cape County Cowboy Church.
Loving survivors include her husband of 52 years of marriage of Jackson; two sons, Brett Smith and Ryan (Bonnie) Smith, all of Jackson; five grandchildren, Merritt, Warren, Tripp, Luke and Lauren Smith; four sisters, Wanda (Lindell) Seabaugh, Kathy Cook, Brenda (Norman) Holweg, all of Marble Hill, and Sharon (Dennis) Collins of Jackson.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Memorial service will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating.
