Carolyn Shoemaker, a beloved piano teacher and former secretary for Southeast Health Foundation, passed away at 72. Survived by her husband, children, and grandchildren, she leaves a lasting legacy in Southeast Missouri.

Carolyn Shoemaker, daughter of the late Fred Propst and Carmen Laverne Vance Propst was born April 29, 1952, in Cape Girardeau and departed her life on Friday, August 9, 2024, at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter at the age of 72 years.

She was a former secretary for Southeast Health Foundation and manager of Loan Oak Apartments in Advance. Carolyn was an accomplished piano player giving lessons for several years and playing for revivals and church gatherings all over Southeast Missouri. She was a member of the Hooe Baptist Church in Pop City and a resident of Advance.

On Dec. 26, 1969, she was united in marriage to the Rev. Kenneth L. Shoemaker in Allenville. He survives of the home in Advance.

Besides her husband, survivors include four sons, Kenny Shoemaker, Joe (Theresa) Shoemaker, Justin Shoemaker and Hunter Shoemaker; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; also, by other relatives and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Gary Propst.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.

Funeral will then be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, at the funeral home with Pastor Alex Sims and the Rev. Don Estes officiating. Interment will follow in the Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
