Carolyn Ferrell Malugen, born July 22, 1942, to Harry "Doc" and Pearl Gunter Ferrell, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She was 81 years old.

Carolyn married James Monroe Malugen on Jan. 10, 1965, and together they shared a life filled with love and commitment until his passing Dec. 11, 2017.

She is survived by her devoted children, Mark (Jennifer) Malugen and Jamie (Crystal) Malugen, who were a source of pride and joy throughout her life.

She leaves behind cherished memories for her siblings, brother, Harry Gunter Ferrell, and sister, Dianne (Buddy) Russell. Carolyn's legacy extends through her grandchildren, Tessa Thompson, Mark "Moe" Malugen II, Morgan Weigand, Cole Malugen, Tyler Malugen and Toby Malugen, and her great-grandchildren, Blakelee Malugen-Thompson, Elliott Thompson, Kamrynn Thompson, Tollison Weigand and Marlowe Weigand.

A family visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, with visitation for friends following at 11 a.m.

The funeral to celebrate Carolyn's remarkable life will be at noon Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the funeral home. The service officiants will be Mark "Moe" Malugen II and Joe Mooney. A private family interment will follow at the IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.

Honoring her memory as pallbearers will be Mark "Moe" Malugen II, Cole Malugen, Tyler Malugen, Toby Malugen, Kevin Malugen and David Malugen. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be John Malugen and Ben Ray.

In addition to her family, Carolyn was passionate about Merle Norman Makeup, a special interest that brought her joy and allowed her to express her creativity. Her love for this art form added a unique and vibrant dimension to her life.

Carolyn Ferrell Malugen will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched with her warmth, kindness and love. May she rest in eternal peace.
