MOUNDS, Ill. -- Caroline S. Stout Dakin, 78, of Mounds passed away at 7:10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, surrounded by her family.
Caroline, a Christian, was born Dec. 14, 1940, in Mound City, Illinois, daughter of the late James Paul and Winnifred L. Connell Stout. On April 8, 1982, in Mounds, Caroline married Roy Edward Dakin, who survives.
She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Villa Ridge, Illinois; was a former teacher with the Meridian School District in Mounds; served as a librarian at the Mounds Library; was a member of the Mound City Women's Club, where she held several past offices; was a member of the Meridian Education Association; and was a member of the Illinois State Education Association.
She received her master's degree in education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, and she served at Texas Central College as a director in education.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Cox.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Roy Edward Dakin of Mounds; a daughter, Michelle McLaskey of Orient, Illinois; two sons, Tim (Phyllis) Dakin and Shawn (Shannon) Dakin, both of Tamms, Illinois; a brother, John (Mary) Stout of Westerville, Ohio; grandchildren, Christopher Goode, Logan McLaskey, Nicklos Dakin, Lance Dakin and Brittany Dakin; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Friends may call between 5 and 8 p.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge.
Funeral services will be at noon Friday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Buddy Walls and Larry Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Mound City National Cemetery in Mound City.
