Carol Anne Steiner, 69, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2024, at Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau.

She was born March 11, 1954, to John and Jeanne Scherer in St. Louis. She and Gregory Steiner were married at St. John and James Catholic Church in Ferguson on Sept. 27, 1980.

Carol was a vivacious person who never met a stranger. She could strike up a conversation with anyone and become instant friends. She was especially proud of her work with Alzheimer's Association.

She was a member of Holy Spirit and St. Michael's churches in Memphis, Tennessee, and most recently St. Vincent de Paul Catholic in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include two sons, David (Allison Schwartz) Steiner and John (Stephanie) Steiner; two brothers, Stephen (Debbie) Scherer and Pat (Donna Merck) Scherer; three sisters, Mary (Dan) Huggins, Donna (Paul Hairsine) Narsh and Kathy (Kurt) Ludwig; sister-in-law, Diane Scherer; and two stepgrandchildren, Nick and Ethan Lovins.

Carol was preceded in death by her father, John J. Scherer; mother, Jeanne R. Scherer; and brother, John J. Scherer.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, with parish prayers beginning at 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Rick Jones officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape Girardeau at a later date.

In lieu of flowers and plants, Gregory has asked that memorial contributions be donated to Alzheimer's Association, the Go Getter's Team.
