BENTON, Mo. -- Carol Jean Hulshof, 67, of Benton died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, at New Madrid Living Center in New Madrid, Missouri.
She was born July 24, 1949, in Cape Girardeau to James and Nora Brands Scherer of Portageville, Missouri. She married Vince Hulshof on July 5, 2002.
Carol graduated cum laude with a degree in home economics in 1994 from Southeast Missouri State University. Carol taught culinary arts at the Cape Girardeau Vocational School.
She loved her family and loved to cook and entertain.
She is survived by her husband; seven children, Amber (Ben) Taylor and Natalie (Joshua) Statler, both of St. Louis, Tom (Cindy) Hulshof of Cape Girardeau, Katie (Kevin) Fennewald of Scott City, Laura (Greg) Hurd of Franklin, Tennessee, Patrick (Robin) Hulshof of Benton and James (Tracy) Hulshof of Chicago; three brothers, James (Marcia) Scherer of Oran, Missouri, and Jerry (Paula) Scherer and Patrick (Clara) Scherer, both of Portageville; a sister, Loretta (Kelly) Kellams of Portageville; grandchildren, Ainsley Caroline Statler, John, Clare and Ellie Fennewald, Nate, Abby and Sarah Hulshof, Anna, Nicholas and Colin Hurd, Madeline, Brock, Parker and Augustus Hulshof and Luke Hulshof; and many nieces and nephews who loved her as well.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Michael Casteel as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Denis Catholic Cemetery.
