Carol Estes, 67, met her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013. She passed away at her home in Perryville, Mo., after a valiant nine-year battle with cancer.
She was born May 8, 1946, at Glenallen, Mo., to Ernest and Esther Slinkard Walker. She and the Rev. Don Estes of Jackson were married June 22, 1973, at Trinity Baptist Church in St. Mary, Mo.
Carol was a 1964 graduate of Woodland High School. She attended Hannibal LaGrange College in Hannibal, Mo., and earned her nursing degree through Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis. She then worked as a registered nurse at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau and Perry County Memorial Hospital in Perryville.
She had a heart for Christ and was truly devoted to missions. She also enjoyed helping in VBS. She faithfully assisted her husband in his pastorates at the following churches: Trinity Baptist Church at St. Mary; Little Whitewater Baptist Church at Patton, Mo.; Big Creek Baptist Church at Buckhorn, Mo.; Caney Fork Baptist Church near Oak Ridge; Marquand Baptist Church in Marquand, Mo.; and currently Shawnee Hills Baptist Church in Jackson.
Loving survivors include her husband of 40 years, Don Estes of Perryville; three children, Sarah Estes of Jackson, Tenn., Jason (Tonya) Estes of Perryville and Jonathan (Katie) Estes of Harvester, Mo.; four grandchildren, Mikeal, Eiren, Andrew and Emma; a brother, Winfred (Onita) Walker of Chaffee, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Carol Walker of Michigan; two nephews; and a niece.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lowell Walker.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Thursday at Shawnee Hills Baptist Church, 1204 Brandom St. in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Todd Vinson officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
