JONESBORO, Ill. -- Carol "Dick" Copeland, 77, of Jonesboro, died Thursday, March 11, 1993, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

He was born July 7, 1915, at McClure, son of Charles and Mary Simpkins Copeland. He and Ludine Brown were married Jan. 13, 1944, in Jonesboro.

Copeland is a retired operating engineer. He was a 46-year member of Operating Engineers Local 318, and member of Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Karen Hubbs of Anna, Pam Kaplan of Cooper City, Fla., Kathy Pengress of Jonesboro; two brothers, Cyril Copeland of Jonesboro, Henry Copeland of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Ruby Goodman of Cape Girardeau, Ellen Strange of Herrin, Ill., and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Norris and Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Ford officiating. Burial will be in Jonesboro Cemetery, with graveside rites by VFW Post 3455.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. today.
