SIKESTON -- Carmelita New, 85, of Boomer, W.Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, at Montgomery General Hospital in Montgomery, W.Va.
She was born Jan. 30, 1911, near East Prairie, daughter of James Monroe and Nuner Lea Benton Jones. She married Jack New in 1954. He died in 1971.
New moved to Sikeston in 1972 from Glen Allan, Miss., and then moved to Boomer in 1995. She was a member of Murray Lane Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Jones of Boomer; a stepson, Howard New of Glen Allan; a stepdaughter, Bonnie Carroll of Glen Allan; two sisters, Geneva Wright of Deepwater, Emma Schulte of Carlsbad, N.M.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. Sunday.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel, with the Rev. Kelly Grubbs officiating. Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery.
