Carlos Eugene Ratliff, 83, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, at Ratliff Care Center.

He was born May 20, 1940, in Burdine, Kentucky, to Carl and Juanita Rogers Ratliff. He and Emmagene Roberts were married Aug. 7, 1960, at Scott City.

He was a 1958 graduate of Cape Central High School and 1966 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. He spent his career in accounting, specializing in tax accounting and owning/operating Ratliff Care Center. He has been a licensed Nursing Home Administrator since 1972.

As a giving and caring member of his community, he spent several years as a member of the Cape Evening Optimist and was a member of Mid-America Adult and Teen Challenge Board of Directors for more than 30 years.

He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and sightseeing. He was a member of National Wild Turkey Federation for more than 30 years and became a Silver Life Sponsor.

He spent his life active in his church, serving as Sunday school superintendent, treasurer and served on the deacon board at Bethel Assembly of God Church for 25 years. He has been a member of Discover Life Church (formerly Cape First) for nearly 20 years.

He had a great love for his family and especially loved special time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their activities and events.

Survivors include his wife, Emmagene Ratliff of Cape Girardeau; daughter, Carla (Mark) Skinner of Jackson; two sons, Michael (Teresa) Ratliff of Cape Girardeau and Chris (Carlene) Roberts of Sparta; four brothers, Larry Ratliff of Cape Girardeau, Dale (Beverly) Ratliff of Cape Girardeau, Roger (Jen) McNeely of Cape Girardeau and Scott (Connie) McNeely of Jackson; sister, Connie (Rodger) Reed of Jackson; five grandchildren, Stephanie (Travis) Hillis of Ellsinore, Andrew (Leslie) Ratliff of Cape Girardeau, Trevor (Julia) Henderson of Poplar Bluff, Clayton (Jordan) Ratliff of Cape Girardeau and Ashley Skinner of Kansas City, Missouri; four great-grandchildren, Kale and Emmalee Hillis of Ellsinore and Carter Ratliff and Callen Ratliff of Cape Girardeau; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nina Kitchen.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gary Brothers officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to Adult and Teen Challenge Mid-America.
