ANNA, Ill. -- Carl E. Miller, 87, of Anna died Friday, July 23, 1999, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Marion.

He was born Feb. 10, 1912, at Union County, son of Moses M. and Edith Winebarger Miller. He and Rhoda Harper were married Nov. 28, 1938, at Jackson, Mo.

Miller was a member of the First Baptist Church at Anna, Anna Masonic Lodge 520 AF&AM. He also was a charter member of Anna VFW Post 3455 and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He retired from Transcraft in Anna where he had worked as supervisor. After retiring, he was associated with Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.

He also had worked as a Boy Scout leader with Troop 44 for several years with Troop 44. He was a former member of the Anna Kiwanis Club and chaired the Kiwanis Baseball Field and the Anna Junior High outdoor basketball court projects.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Max Miller of Anna; a brother, Lowell Miller of New Braunfels, Texas; three sisters, Lorene Sweitzer and Jewell Williams, both of Anna, and Mary Baker of Carrier Mills; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today and Monday until service time at Crain Funeral Home at Anna. Masonic services will be at 8 p.m. today by Anna Lodge 520 AF&AM.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Revs. Larry Schacklee and Gene Hart will officiate, with burial in the Anna Cemetery.
