Carl Compton Hoffman, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Sept. 19, 2016, at his home. He was born June 24, 1931, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Carl and Mildred Compton Hoffman. He and Paula Cyrus were married June 6, 1953, in Lexington, Kentucky. Carl graduated from Crafton High School in Crafton, Pennsylvania. Carl Compton Hoffman, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Sept. 19, 2016, at his home.

He was born June 24, 1931, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Carl and Mildred Compton Hoffman. He and Paula Cyrus were married June 6, 1953, in Lexington, Kentucky.

Carl graduated from Crafton High School in Crafton, Pennsylvania. He then went on to graduate from the University of Kentucky with a bachelor of arts degree.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.

He worked for the United States Weather Bureau in Alaska and then transferred to the Internal Revenue Service, working in Cairo, Illinois, and then in Cape Girardeau, before retiring in 1996.

Carl was a member and elder in the United Church of God in Cape Girardeau.

He is survived by his wife, Paula Hoffman of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Karen (Mike) Kirby and Cheryl (Mark) Howard, both of St. Louis, and Patricia Montgomery of Chicago; a brother, Richard (Jeanne) Hoffman of Surprise, Arizona; and four grandchildren, Kathryn (Kirby) Dethrow of St. Louis, Maura Howard of San Francisco, Gabrielle Montgomery of Chicago and Matthew Howard of St. Louis.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Pastor Rick Beam officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau with military honors.

Memorial contributions may be given to Crown Hospice or LifeNet.
