CAIRO, Ill. -- Capt. Charles G. Woods Sr. of Cairo died Friday, March 4, 1994, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born July 10, 1909, in Lockport, Ky., son of Capt. CAIRO, Ill. -- Capt. Charles G. Woods Sr. of Cairo died Friday, March 4, 1994, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 10, 1909, in Lockport, Ky., son of Capt. Elisha and Elizabeth O'Brien Woods.

Woods was a riverboat captain and was master of the steamboat Richard Barrett until retiring. He also was superintendent of Barrett Towing Co. in Cairo.

Survivors include a son, Charles Woods Jr. of Olmsted, and a grandchild.

Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo after 11 a.m. Monday.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Matthew Palmer officiating. Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery at Mounds.
