Calvin R. Avery, 83, of Suffolk, Va., widower of Verla Mae Avery, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at his home.
A graveside service was held Thursday at Dorchester Memory Gardens in Summerville, S.C.
Mr. Avery was born Jan. 23, 1926, at Senath, Mo., son of the late Harry and Ada Avery.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
He spent most of his career in the automotive body repair industry.

Survivors include four sons and two daughters, Gaylon L. "John" Avery (Charlene) of Geneva, Ala., Larry "Dink" Avery (Garlett) of Suffolk, Linda M. Kimbrell (R. Neal) of Ladson, S.C., George A. Avery (Pam) of Bryan, Texas, Glenn "Buddy" Avery of Charleston, Mo., Teena M. Haglund of Opelika, Ala.; four brothers and a sister, George "Mike" Avery of Scott City, Jeffrey Avery of Bryan, Texas, Randall Avery of Farmington, Mo., James Avery (Robin) of Cape Girardeau; and a sister, Sherry Sturm (Jim) of Scott City.
He was preceded by a son, Alan Avery; a daughter, Suetta Raye Avery; and two brothers, Glennon and Harry D. Avery.
James A. Dyal Funeral Home in Summerville was in charge of arrangements.
