COMMERCE, Mo. -- Lawrence "Buddy" Vetter Jr., 78, of Commerce died Sunday, April 10, 2011, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born March 1, 1933, in Commerce to Lawrence and Rosalee "Sally" Bles Vetter. He and Mary Helen Biri were married April 16, 1960, in Ancell. She preceded him in death Sept. 28, 2002...

COMMERCE, Mo. -- Lawrence "Buddy" Vetter Jr., 78, of Commerce died Sunday, April 10, 2011, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 1, 1933, in Commerce to Lawrence and Rosalee "Sally" Bles Vetter. He and Mary Helen Biri were married April 16, 1960, in Ancell. She preceded him in death Sept. 28, 2002.

Buddy was a riverboat pilot with MetCo. He had also worked for Cargill and John Masmon Construction Co.

Survivors include two sons, Fred (Cindy) Vetter and Coy Dwayne (Lori) Vetter of Commerce; a sister, Shirley (Arthur) Poorman of Bonne Terre, Mo.; and three grandsons, Zach and Cameron Vetter and Brandon Vanpool.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Chad Bles officiating.

Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery in Commerce.
