Delbert Leonard "Bud" Spurlock, 88, passed into the Lord's peace Sunday, May 17, 2015, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born July 13, 1926, in the home of his grandparents, Drury Lafayette and Debra Jane Spurlock, at Cane Creek west of Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He is the son of Delbert Lafayette and Meacy E. Warbington Spurlock. He and Mary Ann Estes of Millersville were married Aug. 28, 1955...

Delbert Leonard "Bud" Spurlock, 88, passed into the Lord's peace Sunday, May 17, 2015, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 13, 1926, in the home of his grandparents, Drury Lafayette and Debra Jane Spurlock, at Cane Creek west of Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He is the son of Delbert Lafayette and Meacy E. Warbington Spurlock. He and Mary Ann Estes of Millersville were married Aug. 28, 1955.

Bud attended school in Poplar Bluff and Sikeston, Missouri, High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War in Seoul from 1950 to '52.

Bud worked at Sikeston Wholesale Grocery Co. before going to Malone & Hyde Wholesale Grocery Co. in Sikeston, where he retired after 33 years as director of transportation.

He was passionate about Jesus Christ, his family, serving as a church deacon and Sunday school teacher and working with the church youth and senior citizens on their mission trips.

Along with Mary Ann, he was active in The Gideons International organization and the Christian Motorcyclist Association and was a member of SEMO Riders For The Son Christian Motorcycle Club. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sikeston.

Survivors include his wife; children, Dennis and wife Marilyn Spurlock of Arkansas, daughter-in-law, Cheryl Spurlock, wife of the late Donald Spurlock of Texas, Darryl Spurlock of Jackson, Dean and wife Christine Spurlock of Sikeston, Jerry and wife Elizabeth Estes of Virginia, Tom and wife Melissa Estes of Pennsylvania, Susan Estes Brethold and husband Phillip of Cape Girardeau, and retired Air Force 1st Lt. Connor Winai and wife Heather Estes of Alabama.

Also grandchildren, Ben, Logan, Jesse, Wesley, Julia, Payton, Alex, Sierra and husband Justin, Shane, Morgan, Mandy, Jessica and husband Jack, Cory and wife Jessica, Tyson, Tristan, Kaylee; great-grandsons, Landon and Eli; a great-granddaughter, Audrey Rae; and two sisters, Wanda Couch of Sikeston and Betty Pearce of Paducah, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Wayne Spurlock.

Friends may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. David Ross, pastor of First Baptist Church in Sikeston, will officiate. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston with full military honors.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Ben McMullin, Logan Spurlock, Jesse Spurlock, Wesley Spurlock, Cory Brethold and Tyson Estes and Bob Parr, husband of niece Suzanne Estes Parr.

Honorary pallbearers will be nephews Tony and David Couch and Steve and Rod Pearce.
