PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. -- Bruce Odell Martin Jr., 72, of Portageville died Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, at Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti, Missouri. He was born Nov. 6, 1942, in Dyess, Arkansas, the son of Bruce Odell and Willodene Ferguson Martin Sr. He was united in marriage to Linda Sue Elliott on Oct. 3, 1959, in Lilbourn, Missouri. PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. -- Bruce Odell Martin Jr., 72, of Portageville died Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, at Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti, Missouri.

He was born Nov. 6, 1942, in Dyess, Arkansas, the son of Bruce Odell and Willodene Ferguson Martin Sr. He was united in marriage to Linda Sue Elliott on Oct. 3, 1959, in Lilbourn, Missouri. She preceded him in death Oct. 22, 2014.

A well-respected businessman in Portageville, he was owner and operator of Bruce Martin Construction Co., Portageville Enterprises, Agri-Systems of Cape & Jackson and Martin Farms. He was very active in the community, serving on numerous boards, including First State Community Bank, Portageville Housing Authority and Little River Drainage. He was instrumental in various projects in and around Portageville. He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors, and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include two daughters, Terry (Greg) Gowan and Misty (Paul) Fout, all of Portageville; three grandchildren, Chris (Katie) Bates, Cory Bates and Brayden Fout; and two great-grandchildren, Fenley Beth Bates and Payton Alise Bates.

He also was preceded in death by his parents, Willodene Ferguson Martin and Bruce Odell Martin Sr.; two brothers, James Allen Martin and Bobby Martin; and one sister, Rose Mary Bowen.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev Eugene Poole, the Rev. Tim Stanfield and Father Daniel Robles officiating. Burial will be in Portageville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a scholarship in honor of Mr. Bruce Martin is being asked. Envelopes can be obtained at the funeral home or can be mailed to Bruce Martin Scholarship Fund, c/o DeLisle Funeral Home, P.O. Box 326, Portageville, MO 63873.
