MARQUAND, Mo. -- Brenda Marie Grubb, 61, of Marquand, formerly of Thebes, Ill., died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born June 29, 1948, in Cairo, Ill., to Robert Winston and Blanche Bledsoe Wehmeyer. She married Donnie Grubb on Sept. 11, 1972.

Grubb was a graduate of Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, Tenn., earning a bachelor of arts in history. While a student there she did missionary work in Hawaii. She later enrolled at Southeast Missouri State University, where she earned a bachelor of science in English.

She began her teaching career in 1972, starting at Egyptian High School in Tamms, Ill.; then for a brief period she was a nurse aide trainer at Southeast Missouri Hospital. Upon her return to teaching she taught at Zalma and Leopold, Mo., and for the last 20 years was at Marquand.

Grubb won numerous teaching and education awards at Marquand and taught GED classes at Fredericktown, Mo. She returned to Southeast University to earn a degree in Spanish. She was a member of Alexander Free Will Baptist Church and Missouri State Teachers Association.

Survivors include her husband, Donnie, of Marquand; a son, Shawn Grubb of Jackson; a daughter, Ladonna Marie Grubb of Memphis, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Brooke Grubb, Katoshia Grubb, Keasha, Kristen and Megan Grubb and Tiffany Wilfong; her parents, Winston and Blanche Wehmeyer of Thebes; a brother, Bill (Debbie) Wehmeyer of Thebes; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by a son, Donnie Wayne Grubb Jr. on April 3, 1995; a brother, Buddy Wehmeyer in 1975; and a sister, Becky Wehmeyer in 1999.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home, 829 N. West End Blvd. in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Earnest Brown officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Thebes.
