Brenda L. Cochran, 49, of Dallas, Texas, loved by many, passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008.

She was born in Watseka, Ill., Jan. 25, 1958, daughter of William and Delories O. Spriggs Cochran, who preceded her in death.

Her contagious laughter, sparkling smile and twinkling eyes were all contained in the unique and complex, spiritual woman that God made and let us all share for a short 49 years. Brenda lived life to the fullest and with a style that was her own.

A former nurse and graduate of Cape Girardeau school of nursing, Brenda was an asset to hospitals and private practices in Missouri, and in 1982 nursing led her to Texas, where she continued nursing for a few years. Although she had a career in advertising for the past 10 years, her success has been found working as an executive assistant for 7-Eleven Corp.

Brenda loved to cook and enjoyed entertaining friends. She excelled in exotic dishes she learned through her travels. An invitation to her parties was sought after. She was the "ultimate" hostess.

Brenda loved her family and took great joy in being "Auntie Mame" to all her nieces and nephews. She also loved weekend estate sales, and her home is the showcase to prove it.

She also spent many hours caring for neighborhood feral kitties, much to the dismay of her own kitties, Sam and Libby.

Brenda was preceded in death by her father, Lester Simmons, who raised her, a brother and two sisters.

She is survived by five brothers, Steve Simmons and William Cochran of Advance, Mo., Bruce Cochran of Scott City, Rodney Simmons of Cape Girardeau and Trace Simmons of Dallas.

Friends may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the chapel, with the Rev. Rennie Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery.
