Bobby and Zelma Winder

A joint memorial service will be held for Zelma Leona Winder and her son, Bobby Ray Winder, at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at Church of Christ in Cape Girardeau. The service will be conducted by James and Doug Winder.

Bobby Ray Winder, 67, of Fontana, Calif., died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at Crestview Hospital in Fontana, Calif. His mother, Zelma Leona Winder, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at her son's California home.

Bobby Ray Winder was born April 19, 1934, in Cape Girardeau, son of James Winford and Zelma Leona Hill Winder.

Winder moved to Texas in his early teens and has been in California about 20 years. He had been an antique dealer and a sheet metal draftsman. He also had owned a wildflower nursery in Springfield, Ill.

Bobby Winder's survivors include four sons, James Winder of Joliet, Ill., Frankie Winder of Cincinnati, Ohio, Douglas Winder of Georgetown, Guyana in South America, and Darin Winder of Killeen, Texas; three daughters, Sandra Sweeton of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mellisa Winder and Renee Winder of Fontana, Calif.; and 17 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters and two grandchildren.

Zelma Winder was born June 11, 1917, in Alexander County, Illinois, daughter of Harmon G. and Sarah Elizabeth Karraker Hill. She married James Winford Winder in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death.

Winder was of the Baptist faith and had been living in California for the past 21 years. She served in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors for Zelma Winder include a sister in California, seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and two great-grandchildren.
