Billy Joe Holmes, 75, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Southeast Hospital. He was born Sept. 30, 1940, in Cairo, Illinois, to Harry and Ella Mae Jackson Holmes. He and Mary K. Deaton were married Jan. 1, 1977, at Cairo. He worked as a security guard for the Arizona Department of Corrections for 20 years and was a jailer for the Cape Girardeau Police Department. He retired from the maintenance department at Wal-Mart after 10 years...

Billy Joe Holmes, 75, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Southeast Hospital.

He was born Sept. 30, 1940, in Cairo, Illinois, to Harry and Ella Mae Jackson Holmes. He and Mary K. Deaton were married Jan. 1, 1977, at Cairo.

He worked as a security guard for the Arizona Department of Corrections for 20 years and was a jailer for the Cape Girardeau Police Department. He retired from the maintenance department at Wal-Mart after 10 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mary K. Holmes of Cape Girardeau; stepson Nickolas (DeBonna) Rednour of Pontiac, Michigan; son Victor (Mark) Holmes of Plano, Texas; daughters Tanya (Guy) Wills of Apache Junction, Arizona, and Bobbi (Sean) Naeger of Perryville, Missouri; brothers Rennie (Barbara) Holmes of Farmer City, Illinois, and Norman (Anna) Holmes of Haslet, Texas; sisters Leota Ethridge of Cape Girardeau, Sharon Cooley of Mantachie, Mississippi, and Gloria (Angel) Martinez of Lake City, Florida; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Peter Binson officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thebes, Illinois.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
