William K. "Bill" Wedekind, 74, formerly of Whitewater, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2003, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Mo. He had lived in Oregon, Mo., 38 years.

He was born Aug. 15, 1928, at Whitewater, son of Julius A. and Viola M. Hoffman Wedekind. He and Gladys Corrine Hartmann were married Nov. 6, 1949, at Gordonville. She survives.

Other loving survivors are a daughter, Jane Ann Fox of Oregon; a son, Kim David Wedekind and wife Sharon of Savannah, Mo.; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; and an aunt, Arlyn Heider of Jackson; several cousins; many friends, relatives, nieces and nephews.

Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, stationed with the Signal Corps in Sendai, Japan.

He was a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, holding a bachelor's degree in agriculture and a master's degree in agricultural economics and extension education. After 34 years of service with the University of Missouri Extension Center program, he retired in 1983 to continue farm management and consultant work, and his own gardening and orchard production.

Bill was a member of the Oregon United Methodist Church and was active in lay ministry, serving as lay pastor for two different rural churches. He also served on the United Methodist district and conference committees. He was a member of the American Legion Post 190 in Oregon, and past president of the Oregon Kiwanis Club and Holt County Farm Bureau.

Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ann Mowery officiating. Burial will be in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery in Gordonville.
