MATTHEWS -- William Clayton "Bill" Hays, 79, 203 Calvin Street in Matthews, died Friday, Oct. 29, 1993 at the John J. Pershing V.A. Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.
He was born Aug. 30, 1914 at Hartman, Ark., the son of William H. and Laura Elizabeth Campbell Hays. On Dec. 19, 1953 he married Opal Kay Marcus at Hernando, Miss., and she survives.
He was a veteran of the Army in World War II and the Korean conflict, and had been a resident of the Matthews area for the past 50 years. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, a charter member of Disabled American Veterans chapber #57, and a member of the Sikeston AMVETS-James Tanner Post #149.
Survivors include: two sons, David Hays of Titusville, Fla., and Danny Hays of Sikeston; one step-son, Howard Davis of Memphis; two step-daughters, Peggy Moran of Mayfield, Ky., and Pat Ahart of Sikeston; three brothers, Arthur Hays of Clarksville, Ark., Hurly Hays of Coal Hill, Ark., and James Hays of Scopus; three sisters, Ann Matlock of Coal Hill, Ark., Nettie Holt of Russelville,k Ark., and Chloe Workman of Clarksville, Ark.; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, where a joint DAV and AMVETS service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Nunnelee Chapel, with Rev. Don Heitman, pastor of the Matthews Nazarene Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
