Betty Zook Mothershead, 83, of Scott City died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
She was born Sept. 24, 1930, in East Prairie, Mo., to Bomar and Myrtle Brotherton Zook. Betty and Hoyt Alvin Mothershead were married Feb. 11, 1951, at First Baptist Church in Sikeston, Mo.
Betty served as deputy recorder of deeds 25 years at Scott County Courthouse. She was a member of Red Hat Society. Betty had a servant's heart, and since October 2000 had volunteered 2,000 hours at Saint Francis Medical Center in the Critical Care family waiting room. She shared many acts of kindness and generosity with those anxious families, offering comfort and compassion to all she met. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt.
Survivors include her husband, Hoyt Mothershead; a son, Russ Mothershead of Scott City; a sister, Anna Sue Jones of Dallas; three grandsons, Russ Allen, Clay Austin and Andrew Robert Mothershead; two granddaughters, Kathryn Jo Mothershead Sprengel and Julie Anne Mothershead; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Brian Mothershead in 2000; a grandson, Daniel Brian Mothershead in 2000; three brothers; and four sisters.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Dennis Lowe officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens at Morley, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to either Saint Francis Auxiliary or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
