SCOTT CITY -- Betty Joan Smith, 62, of Scott City died Sunday, April 6, 1997, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born May 4, 1934, at Morehouse, daughter of Clarence B. Elders and Gladys Mae Reynolds.

Smith was a homemaker and a member of New Life Gospel Church in Scott City and the Sikeston Eagles.

Survivors include her son, Bobby Wilfawn of Scott City; seven daughters, Betty "Joanie" Curd, Deborah Obermann, Rebecca Moore, Margie Ledure and Linda Sikes, all of Sikeston, Mary Hopper of Benton and Maxine Smith of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Sharon Simpkins and Connie Smith, both of Scott City, and Brenda Street of Benton; 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Roy H. Smith, who raised her; a daughter and a sister.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Chapel in Scott City from 4-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Jack Owens will officiate with burial at Lightner Cemetery in Scott City.
