Betty J. Higgins, 91, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, April 16, 2021.
Betty was born Nov. 8, 1929, in Marston, Missouri, a daughter of James W. and Hattie Loraine Pinor Griffy. On May 17, 1952, she married Ray D. "Red" Higgins, and he preceded her in death Jan. 13, 2010, after 57 years of marriage.
Betty was a high school teacher in the Illinois public school system for more than 20 years and in 1979 returned to Cape Girardeau, where she was employed for many years as the director of operations for Panorama Tour & Travel.
Survivors include her nephews and nieces, James (Jodi) Huhn of St. Charles, Missouri; Debbie (Charles) Devers of Cape Girardeau; Billy Griffy of Dellwood, Florida; and Charla (Glen) Brown of Woodenville, Washington; her brother and sister-in-law, Charles (Felicia) Griffy of Edgewater, Florida; great-nephews and great-nieces, Will (Misti) Otto of Marble Hill, Missouri; Sienna Brown and Adam Brown of Woodenville; and Michael Griffy, Joshua Griffy and Christopher Griffy of Dellwood; and great-great-nephews and -nieces, Dallas, Samantha and Gus Otto, Aric and Brianna Hobbs, and Christian Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray Higgins; two brothers, Louie and Jim Griffy; and sister, Wilma Huhn.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Barry Pfanstiel officiating.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests memorials to LCHAD Research, in care of Dr. Thomas Morgan, Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, 2200 Children's Way, Nashville, TN 37232.
