Bessie Jane Grojean, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022, at Southeast Hospital.

She was born June 29, 1943, in Allenville to Elbert Howard and Florence "Flossie" Cramer Vance. She and Glen Joseph Grojean were married July 20, 1963, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Chaffee, Missouri.

She worked at Southeast Hospital and retired after 25 years. Before working at the hospital, she was employed at Thorngate.

Survivors include two daughters, Becky Grojean of Cape Girardeau and Debbie (Steve) Schmittzehe of Cape Girardeau; two granddaughters, Ashley (Don Perry III) Perry of Junction City, Kansas, and Megan Schmittzehe of St. Louis; one great-granddaughter, Ava Perry; one great-grandson expected; brother, Bill (the late Shirley) Vance of Advance, Missouri; and one sister, Violet (Lewis) Ware of Whitewater.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Don Vance; and sister and brother-in-law, Carmen and Fred Propst.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, at St. Vincent De Paul in Cape Girardeau, with Father Rick Jones officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Marian Charities.
