BERTHA ABERNATHY

JACKSON -- Bertha Hermina Abernathy, 88, of Jackson died Wednesday, April 9, 1997, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born Aug. 12, 1908, at Tilsit, daughter of Henry and Louisa Sprengel Voges. She married Linus Abernathy, who died May 21, 1980.

Abernathy worked in the fitting room of International Shoe Co. in Jackson and Cape Girardeau more than 30 years, retiring in 1966.

She attended Jackson schools, and was a lifelong member of Emanuel United Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons, Leroy and Kenneth Abernathy of Jackson; a daughter, Arlene Gaines of Poplar Bluff; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, four sisters and a grandson.

Friends may call at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
