David "Bert" Wilson, 84, of Whitewater died Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Chaffee Nursing Center, surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born Jan. 27, 1929, in Arab, Mo., to James and Connie Proffer Wilson. He married Helen R. Maples on June 25, 1947. She preceded him in death July 6, 2012.
Bert lived in Chaffee, Mo., many years until 1970, when he and his wife built a home on their family farm near Whitewater, where he resided until his death. He was most satisfied working and spending time on his farms.
He was a Mason of Chaffee Masonic Lodge AF & AM 615, and member of Chaffee Elks Lodge 1810. He was of the Baptist belief. Bert was hired by Frisco Railroad and later by Burlington Northern Railroad in October 1950. He retired in January 1992. He also helped his wife Helen operate Lake Girardeau concession stand 14 years.
Bert leaves behind his life's accomplishments: his family. He is survived by a daughter, Janet (Larry) Cook; a son, Paul Wilson; four grandchildren, Lana (Sidney) Atkins, Matthew Wilson, Katherine (Nathan) Tidwell and Nicholas Wilson; three great-grandsons, Peyton, Kade and Ty Atkins. He also is survived by many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents as a child; his wife, Helen; and a sister, Jean Alexander.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. Masonic service will be at 7 p.m.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Don Kuehle officiating.
There also will be visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Morgan-Sifford Funeral Home in Puxico, Mo., with burial following in Puxico City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Whitewater United Methodist Church or Lake Girardeau Assembly of God Church.
