Bernice Basse

ANNA, Ill. -- Bernice Basse, 97, of Anna died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at City Care Center in Anna.

She was born Dec. 4, 1911, in Pulaski County, Ill., to Wesley and Ida Hitchcock Mathis. She and Henry Basse were married Aug. 2, 1930. He died Nov. 15, 1983.

Basse was a member of the United Methodist Church in Anna. She was church pianist in her younger years at Center Methodist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Carolyn Schweiger of Olmsted, Ill., Wanda Miller of Anna, Irma Sharp of Pekin, Ill., Shirley White of Makanda, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time Friday at Crain Funeral Home in Anna.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Anna, with the Rev. Bill Minor officiating. Burial will be in Anna Cemetery.
