CHARLESTON -- Berisimo Albert Scheffer, Sr., 56, of Phelan, Calif., died Tuesday, June 20, 1995, at his home. He was formerly of Mississippi County.
He was born Dec. 25, 1938, in the Texas Bend Community of Mississippi County, son of Clem and Emma Gibbar Scheffer Sr.
He married Linda Faye Smith on Jan. 16, 1960, in Phelan. She survives.
He had lived in California most of his life, moving there in 1962. He was self-employed in construction until ill health forced his retirement in 1991.
He was a member of the Holy Innocents Catholic Church, was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and had served four years with the U.S. Navy.
Other survivors are four sons, Berisimo Scheffer Jr. of Anza, Calif., David Scheffer of Phelan, and Timothy Scheffer and Douglas Scheffer, both of Victorville, Calif.; two daughters, Cynthia Kennedy of Chicago and Angelia Cobb of Victorville; two brothers, Joe Scheffer of Ellis Grove, Ill., and Clem Scheffer of Sikeston; four sisters, Christine Senciboy of Perkins, Margaret Proctor of Benton, and Pauline Scheffer and Frances Slayden, both of Charleston; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Sunday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where Prayer Services will be conducted at 7 p.m.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston, with Rev. James Reynolds officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
