MOUNDS, Ill. -- Benjamin Mark Tally, 79, of Mounds died at 7:24 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. MOUNDS, Ill. -- Benjamin Mark Tally, 79, of Mounds died at 7:24 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born April 6, 1922, at Mound City, Ill., son of Mark and Emma McDaniel Tally. He and Floy "Pepper" Shumaker were married Jan. 5, 1946, at Blytheville, Ark.

Tally retired from First State Bank in Mounds after serving 50 years as president. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Cairo, Ill., the Ducks Unlimited Club, the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge. He also served on the Beechwood Cemetery Board in Mounds and attended the First United Methodist Church in Mounds.

He was a technical training pilot instructor and Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include three sons, Benjamin Mark Tally Jr. and wife Jo, of Cape Girardeau, Michael and Carla Tally of Jonesboro Ill., and Don Tally of Cobden, Ill.; two brothers, Earl Tally of Carbondale, Ill., and Bill Tally of Altamont, Ill.; four sisters, Lorena Danby of Carbondale, Lawanda Full of Anna, Ill., Helen Moyers of Cape Girardeau and Lenis Greenwalt of Germantown, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Anne Marie Heisserer, Jon Tally, Mandi Michele Moore, Dan Tally, Shannon Tally, Meredith Tally, Kristen Tally; and two great-grandchildren, Abigail Heisserer and Anthony Heisserer Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, J.C. Tally, Jerry Tally and Loren Tally.

Friends may call at First United Methodist Church in Mounds after 4 p.m. Tuesday and after 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. at the church. The Rev. Jerry Herring will officiate, with burial in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge, Ill.

Memorial contributions can be made to the church, the American Heart Association or Mounds Library.

The Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge is in charge of arrangements.
