ORAN, Mo. -- Benjamin Howell McVay, 82, of Oran died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Feb. 13, 1919, in Haleyville, Ala., son of William Benjamin and Mittie Bradley McVay. He and Helen Nadine Newcomb were married Sept. 17, 1938. She died Nov. 13, 1989.
McVay had been a carpenter with Kluesner Construction Co. of Cape Girardeau. He was a member of Benton United Methodist Church and Morley Masonic Lodge 184.
Survivors include two sons, Howell McVay of LaSalle, Ill., Harvey McVay of Jackson, Mo.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton, Mo., from 5-8 p.m. today and 8-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, and also on Wednesday from noon until time of service at Benton United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Karen Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery at Commerce, Mo.
