SIKESTON -- Funeral service for Beatrice Dowdy of Sikeston will be held at 1 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jake Lawson officiating. Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
Dowdy, 65, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
She was born March 5, 1932, in Jerseyville, Ill., daughter of Thomas F. and Ethel Gertrude Hawkins Burns. She and James O. Dowdy were married Nov. 3, 1952. He died April 2, 1997.
Survivors include a son, Tom Sterling of Plainfield, Ill.; three daughters, Betty Mijares of Canalou, Deborah Solis of Sikeston and Theresa Eurjevic of Knoxville, Tenn.
Also surviving are five brothers, Jim and Roger Burns of Sikeston, Howard Burns of Matthews, Earl and Jack Burns of Diehlstadt; four sisters, Viola Britt and Sandra Lewis of Canalou, Sadie Jenkins of Sikeston, Darlene Burns of Brighton, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
